Renowned Islamic scholar and chancellor of Jamia Darussalam Oomerabad Maulana Kaka Sayeed Ahmed Oomeri passed away Saturday, May 11, 2024, in Oomerabad, Tamil Nadu. He was also the Vice President of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB).
Maulana Kaka Sayeed Ahmed Oomeri hailed from the illustrious Kaka family of Oomerabad, known for their contributions to education and philanthropy. The legacy of this family traces back to his great-grandfather, the renowned philanthropist and hides and skins merchant Kaka Mohammad Oomer Sahib, who established Jamia Darussalam College in 1924. The hamlet where the college stands was aptly named Oomerabad in honour of his contributions.
Jamia Darussalam, now part of a broader educational society, continues to be a beacon of education and service. It encompasses a Tamil medium primary school, a Urdu medium primary school, a technical institute focusing on computer education, and the Jamia Hospital, a comprehensive healthcare facility serving the community’s health needs.
Maulana Kaka Sayeed Ahmed Oomeri’s passing leaves a significant void in the scholarly and educational realms, but his contributions and teachings will continue to inspire generations to come. The entire community extends heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and associates during this time of mourning.
