Iran Condemns “Wave Of Organised Violence Against Indian Muslims”, Asks India To Stop “Senseless Thuggery”

Days after the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the anti-Muslim pogrom in Delhi, that has so far claimed over 47 lives, Iran has issued a strongly worded statement terming the carnage as “organised violence against Indian Muslims”, calling upon the Indian government to “not let senseless thuggery prevail”.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif on Monday took to Twitter and urged the government to ensure the well-being of all Indians.

“Iran condemns the wave of organised violence against Indian Muslims. For centuries, Iran has been a friend of India,” he tweeted.

Emphasising the word ‘all’, Zarif called on the Indian government to help all Indians. “We urge Indian authorities to ensure the wellbeing of ALL Indians & not let senseless thuggery prevail. Path forward lies in peaceful dialogue and rule of law,” he said.

Last week, Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim country, had summoned the Indian ambassador to express concern about the riots. The Indonesian government had said that it had “complete confidence that the government of India will be able to manage the situation and ensure the harmonious relations among its religious communities”.

The anti-Muslim pogrom in the country’s national capital over the amended citizenship law has claimed over 4 dozen lives and injured hundreds. Frenzied mobs have torched houses, shops, vehicles, and destroyed innocent lives.
