Imam, Wife Found Murdered In Haryana’s Sonipat District

A young imam and his wife were found murdered at a room adjacent to a mosque at Malik Majri in Sonipat district of Haryana in the early hours of Sunday, 8 September.

The couple has been identified as Irfan, 38 and his wife, Yasmin alias Meena, 25, resident of Mohali village in Panipat district. Irfan had been working as an Imam for nearly four years and had got married to Yasmin last year.

The couple’s lifeless bodies were discovered by worshippers around 5 am when they started coming in for morning prayers. The police said that the murder was carried out with a sharp object.

According to reports, there was a fight between members of two communities on Saturday evening over the wall of the mosque during which some youths had allegedly threatened the imam with dire consequences.

A case has been registered against the unidentified persons and the police are currently investigating the case.
