Hours after the Central government banned the Popular Front of India (PFI) on Wednesday, the organization said it has been disbanded as law-abiding citizens of the country.
In a statement, PFI state general secretary PFI Abdul Sattar said, “As law-abiding citizens of the country, the organization accepts the decision of the Ministry of Home Affairs ( MHA)”.
“The PFI has been working with a clear vision for the socio-economic and cultural empowerment of the underprivileged, downtrodden and marginalised sections of the society for the past three decades. But as law-abiding citizens of our great country, the organisation accepts the decision of the Ministry of Home Affairs. It also informs all its former members and the general public that the Popular Front of India has been disbanded. All members of the Popular Front of India are requested to cease their activities since the publication of the notification,’’ Sattar said.
On Wednesday, the Centre banned PFI and its eight other affiliated organisations, including associates or affiliates or fronts including the Rehab India Foundation (RIF), Campus Front of India (CFI), All India Imams Council (AIIC), National Confederation of Human Rights Organization (NCHRO), National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation, Kerala
for five years under UAPA
Last week, National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at 93 locations in 15 states across the country and arrested over 100 PFI leaders accusing them of supporting “terror” activities.
