Hindu Mob Attack Muslims, Vandalise Mosque In Madhya Pradesh

On Tuesday, Hindu groups participating in rallies to collect donations for the construction of the Ram Temple stopped in front of mosques, chanted “Jai Shreeram” slogans and vandalised mosques in Chandankhedi village in Indore and Mandsaur district’s Dorana village in Madhya Pradesh.

More than 200 members of Hindu right-wing group stopped outside the mosque and chanted “Jai Shreeram” slogans and Hanuman Chalisa while prayers were being offered inside the mosque.

According to locals, the Hindu youth who were holding saffron flags climbed atop the mosque and tried to damage the minaret. The videos of the incident showed the attackers also trying to burn down a house and damaging several vehicles belonging to Muslims.

Videos have also indicated the police’s complicity in the violence.

Yogesh Deshmukh, Inspector General of Police, Indore, “Twenty-four people, mostly from the village, have been rounded up based on video evidence. There will be more arrests on both sides and people who climbed atop the mosque will be identified and booked under relevant sections.”

This comes three days after similar clashes erupted in Muslim-dominated Begum Bagh neighbourhood of Ujjain when a rally being taken out by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha chanted slogans, leading to stone-pelting.
