An Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM) leader was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly trying to recite Hanuman Chalisa at the Shahi Masjid Idgah in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura to observe the 30th mark anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition.
The police has also detained seven to eight other leaders of the organisation in their houses at different police stations of the city, news agency IANS reported.
To make the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition, the ABHM had given a call for reciting Hanuman Chalisa inside the Shahi Masjid Idgah on the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi complex.
On 6 December 1992, ‘kar sevaks’ demolished the Babri mosque in Ayodhya.
Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Martandey Singh told the news agency the police arrested the organisation’s Agra region in-charge Saurabh Sharma, when he was trying an attempt to go towards the Idgah mosque on the complex.
“The law-and-order situation would not be allowed to be disturbed,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shailesh Kumar Pandey adding that strict watch is also being kept on social media.
He said that the orders of the Supreme Court would be followed and the implementation of prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC and spirit would be ensured.
Last year, the organisation had given a similar call but the district administration scurried their plan.
