Gurugram Muslim Council Rejects RSS-Backed Muslim Groups’ Decision To Limit Namaz Sites

The Gurugram Muslim Council has submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner on Tuesday rejecting the compromise reached between the Gurugram Imam Sangathan and right-wing groups agreeing not to hold namaz at 20 designated places. The Council also demanded setting up of a committee for an amicable solution to the controversy over the offering of namaz in the open, The Hindu reported.

The memorandum was referring to the meeting held a day before at Commissioner’s office with Sanyukt Hindu Sangharsh Samiti convener Mahavir Bhardwaj along with a few Maulvis and Khurshid Rajaka of Muslim Rashtriya Manch of RSS to claim that an agreement has been reached between the Maulvis and the Sanyukt Hindu Sangharsh Samiti that Juma namaaz will not be held on any of the 37 sites.

The Council in the memorandum strongly stated that they will continue praying at all the 37 designated namaz spots in 2018 and demanded the administration to maintain and ensure law and order.

In the memorandum, the Council reiterates that a handful of people with an influence of people like Khurshid and Bhardwaj do not represent more than 150 Maulvis and approximately 4 lakh Muslim Community members residing in Gurugram.

Terming the meetings of a few maulvis and right-wing groups as ‘absolutely fraudulent’ and ‘illegal’ the Muslim Council said in the memorandum, “Who has given this right to a small fringe and discredited group to represent hundreds of Maulvis and thousands of Muslim Community members?”

Denouncing the attempt of representing the entire Muslim community the Muslim Council marked in the memorandum, “Muslims, in general, do not trust Muslim Rashtriya Manch or a handful of Maulvis, and they are not the voice of genuine and reasonable Muslim citizens of Gurugram, has once again been ignored”.

“We reject any and all such agreements done behind closed doors, in a suspicious manner, by a handful of discredited members of Muslim Community”, reads the memorandum.

Through the memorandum, the council requested the Chief Minister to resolve the matter in a mutually consultative way and to constitute a truly representative committee on the matter.
