Former SDPI President A Sayeed Passes Away After Battle With Cancer

A Sayeed, former President of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) passed away Tuesday evening at 5 PM, at a private hospital in Calicut, where he was undergoing treatment for cancer. He was 64.

Sayeed was also the National Executive Council Member of Popular Front of India (PFI), which he joined in 2006, after the erstwhile National Development Front (NDF) and other Islamic organisations merged to form the PFI. He had served as the Chairman of NDF from 2002 to 2006.

Born on June 1, 1955, Sayeed hailed from Edappal in Malappuram district of Kerala. He was a retired Public Relations Officer of the Postal Department. Sayeed was known for his Islamic erudition, and was an author of multiple books on Islam, many of which have been translated into various languages.

His burial service will be held on Wednesday morning at 10 AM at Edavanna Juma’ah Masjid, in Malappuram.
