Karnataka police announced a breakthrough in the murder investigation of Mohammad Fazil of Mangalpet on Monday by identifying a group of four murderers.
The miscreants who hacked Fazil to death on Thursday evening have been identified as Suhas, Mohan, Giri and Amith, according to police sources. Investigations showed that Suhas, who already has a criminal record and is involved in a murder case and two attempts to murder cases is the main accused in the 23-year-old youth’s murder case. The police have launched a search operation for him.
On 28 July, Police also seized the car used by the killers to carry out the crime and arrested its owner Ajith Crasta (40), a resident of Surathkal. The killers abandoned the vehicle in Padubidri after hacking Fazil to death.
Meanwhile, Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) experts are conducting checks of the confiscated car and are expected to provide further leads and evidence.
As per Fazil’s family’s demand, the police department appointed an ACP-ranked officer to head the investigation.
Mangaluru Police Commissioner N Shashikumar told IANS that agencies have questioned nearly 51 people in connection with the case and gathered exact clues on the killers. He said that they would be arrested soon.
Meanwhile, opposition parties in Karnataka had demanded an impartial probe into his murder.
It is being probed whether Fazil’s murder was a retaliatory act.
