Film Screening of ‘Our Gauri’ – A Documentary on Gauri Lankesh

Ashirwad Film Club and Pedestrian Pictures invite you to the screening of “Our Gauri”, directed by Pradeep Dipu. Post-screening, the filmmaker will be available for an interaction with guests.

Synopsis:

Gauri Lankesh was one of the Karnataka’s most prominent and fearless journalist. She was shot dead outside her house in Bengaluru on the night of 5th September 2017. Gauri spoke out against communal forces in the Country and represented dissent and freedom of speech. The film is more than a personal tribute and follows her political journey, envisaging what she stood for and her struggle for communal harmony until her last breath. And her life story has become the history of Karnataka’s fight against right-wing communal forces. While condemning her political assassination, we are screening these films in protest against the dominant paradigm that the country is being brushed under. The film is produced by Pedestrian Pictures.

Director’s Biography:

Pradeep Deepu co-founded Pedestrian Pictures, a media activist collective in 2001. He is a documentary filmmaker and a cinematographer with several narrative feature films, ad films and documentaries to his credit. Deepu’s skill with the visual medium complemented by his deep understanding of the politics of media has translated into teaching.

His film ‘The Red Data Book – An Appendix’ has won awards in multiple international film festivals. His newest film on the journalist Gauri Lankesh, who was killed by the right wing, has won the award for ‘best film of resistance’ at the SIGNS film festival this year.

He has been active in the field of political activism for the last 22 years and has been part of many of the people’s movements across the country. With this experience and knowledge, he guides and helps young aspiring filmmakers and those who want to delve into political media activism even in other forms. He has played a large role in the anti-communal movements in Karnataka. He was the state secretary of the coalition, Karnataka Communal Harmony Forum for 8 years before focusing on using the medium of film to support the political, people’s movements in the country.
