The Geneva-based Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor (Euro-Med) has submitted a comprehensive report to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and UN rapporteurs, highlighting alleged human rights violations by the Israeli army during its attacks on the Gaza Strip. The report describes the Palestinian casualties as genocide and calls for immediate investigations into the ongoing onslaught.
In its initial findings, Euro-Med documented instances of executions carried out by the Israeli army in Gaza. The report estimates that over 28,000 Palestinians have lost their lives since the commencement of the Israeli campaign in the Gaza Strip, a figure that includes individuals presumed dead under the rubble of destroyed buildings. Notably, women and children account for 70% of the recorded victims, making Palestinian deaths the highest rate of civilian casualties worldwide in the 21st century, according to Euro-Med Monitor.
The rights organization urges the ICC and UN rapporteurs to take a strong stance against the widespread killing operations by Israeli forces, emphasizing field executions and physical liquidations in Gaza. Euro-Med calls for the establishment of an international legal team and demands pressure to secure its entry into the Gaza Strip. Furthermore, the organization advocates for the initiation of an inquiry into instances of Palestinian civilians being killed by Israeli forces.
Euro-Med asserts that Israeli executions violate international standards and the right to life, as outlined in Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The latter stipulates that “Every human being has the inherent right to life. This right shall be protected by law. No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his life.”
The organization reiterates its call for UN special rapporteurs and the ICC Prosecutor to promptly investigate the violations and war crimes committed by Israel against civilians in Gaza. It emphasizes the need to hold those responsible for issuing and executing illegal orders accountable for their actions.
