Syed Vicaruddin, the Editor-In-Chief of Hyderabad-based Rahnuma-e-Deccan newspaper, and Chairman of the Indo-Arab League passed away Thursday night after a prolonged illness. He was 82-years-old.
Rahnuma-e-Deccan is the oldest Urdu newspaper in Hyderabad, founded in 1921 by Syed Vicaruddin’s father Syed Yusufuddin and his brother Syed Ahmed Mohiuddin.
Syed Vicaruddin had the distinction of interviewing over 16 Arab Heads of State, including Libya’s Colonel Gaddafi, Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, Palestinian President Yassar Arafat and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
In recognition of his work, Syed Vicaruddin was granted the distinguished rank of Officer of the Royal Order of Alaouite by King Mohammed VI of Morocco. He was also awarded the Order of the Star of Jerusalem by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
His funeral prayers will be offered after the Friday prayers at the Makkah Masjid, following which he will be laid to rest at the Musa Qadri graveyard in Hussaini Alam.
