All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has slammed the Delhi Police for registering an FIR against him along with Yati Narasimhananda, Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal. He said that the Delhi Police is suffering from “both sideism” or “balance-waad” syndromes.
On Wednesday, the IFSO unit of the Delhi police had registered a case against several persons including Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal, Yati Narasimhananda under various provisions for spreading hateful messages, inciting groups and creating an atmosphere detrimental to the maintenance of public tranquillity.
The Delhi Police filed a case against them for spreading “messages of hate, inciting various groups and creating situations which is detrimental for the maintenance of public tranquility.”
The Hyderabad MP too is named in the FIR, prompting a sharp response from him. “This is the first FIR I’ve seen that’s not specifying what the crime is,” he said taking to Twitter.
Owaisi accused the Delhi Police of lacking the courage to pursue cases against Yati, Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal.
“Delhi Police is suffering from “both sideism” or “balance-waad” syndromes. One side has openly insulted our Prophet while the other side has been named to assuage BJP supporters & make it look like there was hate speech on both sides,” he tweeted.
He said that criticising hate speech and giving hate speeches cannot be equated and said that he will not be “intimidated by these tactics”.
Several others named in the FIR include Pooja Shakun Pandey, a member of Hindu Mahasabha, Rajasthan’s Maulana Mufti Nadeem, Abdur Rehman, Anil Kumar Meena, Gulzar Ansari, Shadab Chauhan, the chief spokesperson of Peace Party, and journalist Saba Naqvi.
According to reports, two cases have been registered under IPC Sections 153 (promoting enmity between different groups), 295 (deliberate acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class), and 505 (inducing to commit an offence against the State or against the public tranquility).
