A BBC report published on Wednesday claims to have “uncovered evidence” that the Delhi police “acted alongside Hindu rioters during a wave of attack on Muslims last week”.
An investigation led by BCC’s Yogita Limaye, Shalu Yadav and Nick Woolley reveals instances of police brutality targeting Muslims, and substantiates, what many have been talking about ever since the anti-Muslim pogrom broke out in Delhi, claiming 49 lives so far, and leaving thousands displaced.
Himanshu Rathod, a local who was allegedly involved in the violence, told BBC, “We didn’t have enough stones and the police brought us some.”
A Muslim man, whose property was burnt down in the clashes, said, “I saw the police coming with the rioters who set the shops on fire.”
The video report included details on the death of Faizan, after being beaten by the police. Faizan was one of the men, who was being forced to sing the national anthem by the police. The video was shared widely on the internet. The report also interviewed Rashid, a man who said he was beaten up by the police.
