The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notice to the Delhi Police regarding a plea by journalist and Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair’s plea challenging a Patiala House Court order remanding him to four days of police custody, Bar and Bench reported.
Justice Sanjeev Narula directed the Delhi Police to file a counter-affidavit within two weeks of the petition which also objected to the Patiala House Court order permitting the examination and seizure of Zubair’s laptop and mobile.
On June 28, Patiala House Court remanded Zubair to four days’ police custody.
“Considering the submissions, a response is called for. Let the counter-affidavit be filed in two weeks. Rejoinder to be filed one week thereafter,” the High Court directed.
Further, the single-judge ordered Police to supply copies of the remand application to fact-checker journalist Zubair and said the magistrate will decide the issue without being prejudiced by the High Court order.
Zubair had approached the Delhi High Court on Thursday challenging his police remand.
The matter is scheduled to be heard again on July 27.
