Delhi Court Grants Bail To 7 Accused In ‘JNU Sedition Case’

A Delhi Court on Monday granted bail to seven accused in the 2016 Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) sedition case.

The court granted bail to Aquib Hussain, Mujeeb Hussain Gattoo, Muneeb Hussain Gattoo, Umar Gul, Rayeea Rassol, Khalid Bashir Bhat and Basharat Ali on a personal bond of Rs 25,000.

Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya were already granted bail in the case. However, Umar Khalid is in judicial custody over allegations of inciting the 2020 anti-Muslim Delhi Pogrom, a charge which he has denied.

In a video that has gone viral, Khalid, who appeared before the Patiala House Court on Monday, in connection with case, was seen slamming media organisations for spreading ‘false narratives.’

“For how long will you do paid journalism,” Khalid was heard repeatedly asking media persons outside the court, even as the Delhi cops asked him to “keep quiet.”

Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid, Anirban with seven others were presented in the court as they were summoned by the court after taking cognisance of the charge sheet.

Kanhaiya Kumar and another accused Sushil Bajaj sought exemption from physical appearance but the court dismissed the exemption plea and stated that it will consider it on each date and not in advance.

The Court ordered the Delhi Police to supply copies of the charge sheet and adjourned the case till April 7 for scrutiny of documents.
