Bengaluru: The Special Court for the Trial of Complaints against MLAs and MPs has granted conditional bail to BJP’s Udupi-Chikkamagalur MP Shobha Karandlaje in connection with a defamation case filed by Popular Front of India (PFI).
PFI had earlier filed the defamation case against Karandlaje following her allegation that Mohammed Mansoor Khan, the I Monetary Advisory (IMA) Group founder and prime accused in the multi-crore IMA scam was funding the organisation, using deposits collected from the public.
Karandlaje never submitted any evidence to support her allegation.
P Prasanna Kumar arguing for Karandlaje had appealed to the court to give the MP the bail in the case. The court, which upheld the appeal of the lawyer, fined Rs 200 and ordered to furnish a personal bond of Rs 50,000 and cash security of Rs 10,000. Shobha Karandlaje was personally present in the court for the hearing.
