Dalit Man Assaulted in MP, Stripped To Check If He Was A Muslim

The man’s alleged that the miscreants ‘stripped her son naked’ to check whether he was a Hindu or Muslim

A Dalit man was brutally assaulted by a mob in Nimrani area of Khargone district in Madhya Pradesh.

Several videos of the incident surfaced on social media on Saturday, showing the man identified as Aditya Rokde being assaulted by a group of people allegedly over suspicion of theft. The incident is said to have happened on 3 August.

In one video, the mob can be seen stripping the young man’s clothes to check if he was a Muslim. He was then tied and assaulted again.

Moreover, the Khaltanka police locked up the Dalit man in jail, instead of taking action against the accused.

Superintendent of Police Dharamveer Singh has ordered an inquiry against Khaltanka police outpost in-charge Rajendra Singh Baghel, seeking answers for not taking action on the accused and putting the victim in jail without investigation.

A case under IPC sections of punishment for criminal intimidation, wrongful confinement, and sections of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 has been registered against the accused.

The victim’s mother Bhagwati Rokde said that her son had gone to Khalghat for work and was assaulted on his way back home, The Quint reported. She alleged that the miscreants ‘stripped her son naked’ to “check whether he was a Hindu or Muslim.”

“They beat my son, stripped him naked and checked whether he was Hindu or Muslim. The Police were present at the spot but did nothing to defend my son,” she told the web portal.

However, the police sources claim that Rokde was thrashed over suspicion of theft and not his religion.
