A Karnataka court has reportedly directed the police department to file non-bailable cases against Kannada news channel Public TV chairman H.R Ranganath and the channel’s Anchor Arun Badiger for making incendiary anti-Muslim statements on TV.
In one of the channel’s ‘The Big Bulletin’ episodes titled “Religious warfare in the temple of learning”, the Public TV head H.R Ranganath and presenter Arun Badiger had claimed, “This is India. India was created under the basis of it being a Hindu Rashtra”.
Apart from hurting the sentiments of the Muslim community with such an abrasive statement, the two TV personalities had also indulged in making statements aimed at dividing the two communities. Together with the above allegation, the duo was also accused of uttering prejudiced statements that were against the integrity of the nation, it is learned.
The petitioner Bandenawaz Gogi approached the Shahpur additional court in this regard and registered a private complaint in this regard.
After reviewing the arguments put forth by the complainant’s legal counsel Advocate Mohammed Ghous Gogi, the court has directed that an FIR be registered against Public TV editor Ranganath and the Channel’s presenter Arun Badiger under IPC 153(b) 505 (1)(b)(c) and 505(2), it is learned.
