CM Ibrahim Expelled as Karnataka JDS President; HD Kumaraswamy to Lead Party State Unit

Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) president and former Prime Minister, HD Deve Gowda, announced the expulsion of Karnataka JDS president, CM Ibrahim, from the party with immediate effect. This decision comes in the wake of Ibrahim’s vocal opposition to the party’s recent decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

During a JD(S) core committee meeting held at the JP Bhavan in Bangalore on Thursday, HD Deve Gowda revealed the decision, stating, “It was decided by the party members at the meeting to dissolve the state unit of the JD(S) and also expel Ibrahim as head of the unit.”

CM Ibrahim had been openly critical of the party’s choice to align with the NDA, which led to internal divisions and discussions within the JDS. Following this, party senior leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has been appointed as the ad hoc president of the Karnataka unit of the JD(S).

HD Deve Gowda also announced that Kumaraswamy would take charge as the JD(S) state president on an ad hoc basis.
