After spending nearly four days in custody, eight-year-old Rizwan Qureshi was granted bail on Wednesday. Rizwan and his grandfather were both arrested after communal unrest broke out on Saturday, September 10, during a Mahavir Akhara procession in Bihar’s Siwan district.
Several people, including Rizwan and his 70-year-old grandfather Mohammad Yasin, were detained by the police despite the family’s protests that they are all innocent. The family members say Yasin had recently undergone two operations and has other medical problems.
According to their family, they were booked for incitement of violence and kept in custody.
