Frank Fakhrul Islam, an India-born philanthropist, entrepreneur and Alumna of Aligarh Muslim University has been appointed as a member of the Commission on Presidential Scholars by Joe Biden, President of the United States of America.
The Commission on Presidential Scholars consists of eminent citizens appointed by the President of the country from various academic fields such as education, medicine, law, social work, business, journalism, etc.
These Commissioners are constituted to select and honor the students from across the United States as presidential scholars. A total of 161 scholars are selected by commissioners based on their academic performance, arts, career, technical education, approach towards community, society and other accomplishments.
President Biden on Friday announced a list of 21 commissioners who will perform the different individual key roles in selecting Presidential scholars.
Frank F Islam is the only Indian Muslim on the revered list of the Commission on Presidential Scholars.
US President Barack Obama appointed Islam to be the He General Trustee of the board of trustees of the John F Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts.
Who is Frank F Islam?
The land of Shibli Nomani and an infamous poet Kaifi Azmi, Azamgarh is famous for various obvious reasons, apart from its political demography. The above mentioned are few and the other reason is Frank Islam.
Born in the Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh in India, Islam completed his initial University education at Aligarh Muslim University and moved to the United States for further studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
He is a Chairman and CEO of a multi-million IT empire investment group known as FI in the States. He also runs a non-profit organization jointly run by him and his wife, Frank and Debbie Islam Foundation that supports civic, educational, cultural and artistic causes in the United States and around the world.
He has also been facilitating various projects and departments at his Alma Mater, Aligarh Muslim University. Frank and Debbie Islam Management/ Faculty of Management Studies at AMU is one of his alumni-supported initiative, which provides management studies.
Apart from this Islam, has donated an auditorium cum preview theatre for the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at AMU.
He has also bagged several awards in his career and life which include, the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the year award, in recognition of entrepreneurship, Small Business person of the year of the Washington DC, Tie Legends Award and Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Award, etc.
Islam has authored two books: Working the Pivot Points: To Make America Work Again and Renewing the American Dream: A Citizen’s Guide for Restoring Our Competitive Advantage. He also contributes to the Huffington Post and writes occasional columns and articles for publications such as Foreign Policy, the Daily Times of Pakistan, the International Business Times and the Economic Times of India.
