AIUDF Announces Support for Opposition Bloc ‘INDIA’ In 2024 Lok Sabha Polls

The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has declared its support for the opposition bloc ‘INDIA’ in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, even though it is not officially part of the alliance. AIUDF MLA Rafiqul Islam made this announcement on Monday, stating that his party would provide moral support to the opposition alliance in its battle against the BJP.

This decision aligns with the stance expressed by AIUDF’s chief, Badruddin Ajmal, who had previously affirmed the party’s opposition to the BJP and its willingness to back the ‘INDIA’ bloc.

Citing Ajmal’s statement, MLA Rafiqul Islam stated, “In the event that the ‘INDIA’ alliance requires a few additional seats in Assam to establish the country’s next government in 2024, our party will gladly support it.” He also urged the leadership of ‘INDIA’ to engage with other political parties that are not yet part of the ‘INDIA’ coalition or the NDA.

Islam further highlighted that AIUDF sees a promising opportunity to secure parliamentary seats in Assam. “Earlier, in Assam, our party won three MP seats. After the delimitation exercise, there have been numerous adjustments. However, we are capable of taking at least three of the state’s parliamentary seats — Dhubri, Karimganj, and Nagaon — in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. We are currently focusing on these seats,” he revealed.
