After Karnataka, Govt High School In Puducherry Asks Muslim Student To Remove Hijab

The protesting groups demanded action against the school authorities.

As the hijab row takes new height each day in Karnataka, leaving students in the lurch, a similar incident has occurred in the government school, but this time in Puducherry.

Muslim girl student wearing hijab at the government school in Ariyankuppam in Puducherry was asked by the principal not to wear hijab and attend class.

The incident comes when the Karnataka High Court is hearing the petition in the Hijab case.

Activists in Puducherry turned up as soon as the incident was reported in the government school. Sources say that the principal asked a class 9 student of the government high school not to attend class wearing hijab.

The incident occurred on Friday last week when the student attended the class wearing a hijab.

“The girl used to come to the school wearing a hijab but would take it off in the classroom. This time, however, she was wearing it, and that’s when the controversy started,” said the activists.

Members from the Student Federation of India (SFI), Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK), protested in front of the school, supporting the student.

Puducherry government’s Directorate of School Education has initiated an enquiry in the matter after activists filed complaints regarding the issue.
