The body of 21-Year-Old Ubaidullah, a student of Darul-Uloom Nadwat-ul-Ulama, was found near Sita Rampur Railway station near Asansol in suspicious circumstances on January 8, 2022. He had boarded a superfast train from Varanasi to visit his house in Dhanbad.
According to his relative Abdul Wahid, an RPF personnel Kuldeep Kumar found Ubaidullah injured near to Sitaram Railway Station and took him to the Sadar District Hospital, Asansol. “Ubaidullah was badly injured and was in a critical condition when we reached there on January 9’2022 at around 10 AM. He was reportedly breathing when admitted to the District Hospital. His condition was deteriorating, he didn’t get the proper treatment and passed away”.
The police say that they found a train ticket from the pocket of Ubaidullah.
Ubaidullah, a resident of Hamid Nagar, Jharia in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad was a graduate of Urdu Lucknow Board and had completed a one-year course in English Diploma. He was pursuing Ulema from Darul-Uloom Nadwat-ul-Ulama, Lucknow. His father Seerajuddin (50) says that he was a brilliant hardworking boy and the only son of his family.
Serajuddin says that he had word with Ubaidullah on January 8’2022 between 9 -10 AM over the phone, he had asked him where he had reached to which Ubaidullah replied that he couldn’t recognize the place and didn’t know. Ubaidullah’s sister then tried calling him but his phone wasn’t picked up. Four hours later, Serajuddin received a call at around 2 PM. He was offering prayers and couldn’t receive the call, he then called back after some time. A police person picked up the call and informed him that his son Ubaidullah had met with an accident. Sirajuddin was asked to send the boy’s guardians with their identity cards. He then sent his family members to the District Hospital of Asansol on January 9.
Serajuddin says that Ubaidullah didn’t answer him in assurance when he had word with him over the call on the morning of January 8. “People in Asansol at Sita Rampur say that Ubaidullah was trying to jump out of the running train, but I can’t believe that my son could do such an immature thing. I can’t say murder but I doubt that some intoxicant would have been given to him and so he couldn’t recognize and said to me on the phone that he doesn’t know where the train has reached”, Serajuddin says.
“We can’t say whether it was an accident or murder, it is still doubtful. Although I didn’t see any mark on his body that could clear the cause of his death. His foot was badly crushed. A fair probe in the matter can reveal the real story. We don’t know who was sitting next to him in the train coach, it wasn’t the first time he was travelling and I can’t believe that he could’ve tried to jump off the running train”, Wahid added.
“Around six months back someone had called him from Hajipur, Patna on the pretext of job in a medical store for the position of a cashier. When he reached there, he was asked to pay Rs 10,000/ advance. He was cheated and was locked in a room there when he claimed his money. Our people negotiated and had managed to recover half of the amount and Ubaidullah got back home. That was the first such incident that happened with him, and the second was this accident in which he left the world”, Serajuddin said.
Ubaidullah’s brother-in-law Zahid says he is not ready to believe that he would have tried to jump off the running train. A fair investigation should be ordered to probe the matter.
Ubaidullah was the only son in his family. His father is 50 years old. Ubaidullah’s dubious death has pushed the mother and two sisters into deep pain. “We don’t know what to say, accident or murder, we don’t know what to demand. Ubaidullah’s mother is in deep agony, his sudden demise has come as a great shock, my son was obedient and caring. We are waiting for the autopsy report, they say it will come in 10 to 15 working days”, says Ubaidullah’s father.
